Community fundraiser tops $40,000

Thanks to many residents, the generosity of local real estate agent Chander Chaddah, and proceeds donated by the recent Little City Festival, the Sorauren Park Town Square community fundraising campaign has surpassed its initial $40,000 goal and now sits at more than $48,000 raised.

With a new matching funds grant from Livegreen Toronto, every dollar in the community campaign is doubled, meaning total funds raised to date sit at more than $96,000.

Campaign organizers at the Wabash Building Society will be setting a new target for the community campaign as donations continue to arrive. The entire Town Square construction budget is estimated at approximately $600,000, with the WBS committed to raising half the amount through various fundraising campaigns and grant requests.

The community campaign received a huge boost from Chander, who has donated more than $20,000. “This is my 25th year in business and Roncesvalles Village has been a huge part of my success,” he says. “Making sure we reached our community fundraising goals so as to secure the other funding necessary to build the Town Square is a great way for me to say thanks to all those who have trusted me with their affairs over the years.”

More than $4,000 was also donated by the Little City Festival, held at Sorauren Park on June 17. The family festival is organized by The Little Paper newspaper.

All donations over $10 receive a charitable tax receipt, and donors giving $100 or more are recognized on the donor wall. Donations can be made online through a partnership with the Toronto Parks & Trees Foundation or by cheque in the mail or drop-off.

A big thanks to everyone who has donated! You can see the donor wall here. The donations will be put to good use next year, as phase one construction is planned to start in 2013.
